Workers World PartyWWP is a communist party in the United States founded in 1959 by Sam Marcy. Ideologically, the WWP is an interesting fusion of Trotskyism and several other branches of communism. Among activists, WWP has been well-known for sponsoring or directing numerous popular front groups — which critics allege are actually front groups. The party was instrumental in founding the Act Now To Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) coalition, and has run both the All People’s Congress (APC) and the International Action Center (IAC) for many years. Within the U.S. communist movement, WWP’s politics are extremely unusual and controversial. WWP has defended Slobodan Miloševic and Saddam Hussein. Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, founder of the International Action Center, is in Iraq as of December 2005 acting as a consult to Hussein’s defense team. - from Wikipedia A.N.S.W.E.R.Act Now to Stop War and End Racism is a radical protest organization which has taken a leading role in the post-9/11 anti-war movement. Its steering committee consists of socialists, Marxists, civil rights advocates, and progressive organizations. ANSWER has helped to organize many of the largest antiwar demonstrations in the United States since the September 11, 2001 attacks. It has also organized activities around a variety of issues, ranging from Palestine, to immigrant rights, to Social Security. ANSWER was established by the International Action Center (IAC), which was in turn founded by former United States attorney general Ramsey Clark and the Workers World Party. Many of ANSWER’s leaders were members of Workers World Party (WWP) at the time of ANSWER’s founding, and are current members of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a Marxist-Leninist organization that formed in 2004. - from Wikipedia International Action CenterThe International Action Center (IAC) is a radical activist group founded by former United States Attorney General Ramsey Clark. It has a sister organization with similar goals, the All People’s Congress (APC), which runs most of its offices, and a bookstore, Normals Books and Records, which specializes in politically radical literature. All three of these entities share large overlap with members of the Workers World Party. The long term goal of the IAC is the replacement “by any means necessary” of the present capitalist economic system with a more economically just Marxist system of economic organization. - from Wikipedia National Lawyers GuildThe National Lawyers Guild is a progressive Bar Association in the United States. The NLG opposes the PATRIOT Act, corporate globalization, the World Trade Organization, and has called for the adoption of “the Plan of Action from the 2001 UN World Conference Against Racism, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance.” The NLG supported attorney Lynne Stewart when she was charged and convicted of transmitting terrorist communications from prison by Omar Abdel-Rahman, her former client and mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombings. Former NLG executive vice president Kit Gage replaced Sami al-Arian as president of the National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom (NCPPF) after al-Arian’s February 2003 arrest on charges of funding terrorists. In 1978, the CIA described the NLG as “one of the most useful Communist front organizations at the service of the Soviet Communist Party, [an organization that] has so consistently demonstrated its support of Moscow’s foreign policy objectives, and is so tied in with other front organizations and the Communist press, that it is difficult for it to pretend that its judgments are fair or relevant to basic legal tenets.” - from Wikipedia May DayMay Day is a name for various holidays celebrated on May 1 (or in the beginning of May generally.) Today, May Day is best known as an international holiday celebrating labor and workers, and is often associated with socialism and Communism. May Day is an especially important holiday in Communist countries such as China. May Day has long been a focal point for demonstrations by various socialist, communist, and anarchist groups. May Day received the official endorsement of the Soviet Union. - from Wikipedia Renewing the Traditions of May Day Venona: Soviet Espionage and the American Response, 1939-1957
